ITEM DESCRIPTION Each card contains 1-3 matching objects, in one of three colors, shapes, and shadings. Twelve cards are laid out, and the first person to spot a set of three collects those cards. The cards are replaced from the deck and play continues.
A set consists of three cards that are either all alike or all different in each attribute: for instance, if all three cards have the same number of objects, but different shapes, shadings, and colors, then they're a set. If two of the cards have a common attribute that is not shared by the third, they are not a set.
Re-implemented as a dice game with Set Cubed.

OTHER RELATED STUFF Kings in the Corner - The players shuffle a regular card deck (included), deal out hands and divide up 80 chips among themselves, then begin tossing the chips into the kitty to do take actions (play, draw, renege, etc.) in what amounts to a multi-player version of "Solitaire":
A central hub has four "king" slots and four "tabbed" slots. Only kings can be played in empty king slots, whereas any card may be played in an empty tabbed slot. To play other cards on top of the cards already present in a slot, they have to be one rank lower and the opposite color (red on black or black on red). A pile can be taken from one slot and added to the pile on another slot if the top card of the pile being moved is one lower than, and the opposite color from, the bottom card of the second pile. The first player to get rid of all the cards in their hand wins the round and all of the chips in the kitty, plus additional chips from the other players for each card remaining in their hands. This can be the game, or you can play until someone collects a set number of chips or all of the chips.
Approximate playing time is arbitrary; it will vary depending on the winning conditions that the players choose.
Munchkin 2: Unnatural Axe - Publisher's Description
You demanded it, and here it is. Created by Steve Jackson and illustrated by John Kovalic... 112 more cards for the game of killing monsters and taking their stuff. Play a new race: Orcs! Face foes like the Hydrant and the Tentacle Demons. Equip yourself with dread armor like the Spiked Codpiece. Recruit allies like the Shoulder Dragon. Wield mighty weapons like Druid Fluid, the Catapult and, of course, the dread Unnatural Axe... and show them who's the greatest munchkin of all.
Munchkin 2 - Unnatural Axe is a supplement to Munchkin; you will need the original game to play. Or you could add it to a game of Munchkin, Munchkin Fu, or Munchkin Bites! instead, or mix them all together for a Munchkin-fest of truly mind-bending proportions!

Five Crowns - Five Crowns is rummy, with a twist. The set collection aspect of rummy is basically the same; with groups of 3 cards in either runs or denominations making a valid meld. The difference is that in each hand the number of cards increases, from 3 cards in the first hand to 13 in the last. The game, therefore, consists of 11 hands. In each of these hands, in addition to the 6 Jokers, there are other wild cards. These are determined by which hand it is. In the first hand 3s are wild in the second hand it's the 4s, and so on until in the last hand the Kings go wild. This is made easy to remember because the wild card is the same as the total number of cards you hold. (ie. in the first hand 3 cards, 3s are wild). A hand finishes when someone can meld all cards in their hand (after the discard) and, as the designers say, "the game isn't over 'til the Kings go wild!"
Quiddler - This is a card and word game for 1-8 players. In the non-solitaire versions, the game consists of 8 rounds. In the first, each player is dealt three cards; in the second, four; and so on with the final round being 10 cards. Each card has one or two letters and a point value. At their turn, players can draw a card from the top of the discard pile or from the deck. They must discard one card. When a player is able to use all the cards in his hand (with one left for discarding) to spell words (which must use a minimum of two cards each), he may go out by placing the words on the table. The other players then get one more draw, and must play as many cards as they can. Scoring is done by adding up the point value of all cards used in words and subtracting any left over in the hand (not counting the discard card). In addition, the player with the most words and the player with the longest word each get 10 bonus points. If two or more players tie for a bonus, that bonus is not given in that round. |
